Mark believed in an extraordinary world where anything was possible. He was a master of dreaming big, and he spent his life encouraging others to do the same.

His imagination had no off switch. He wrote wild, character-driven adventures in the spirit of classic pulp action, with vampires, fallen angels, myths, monsters and legends set loose in real historical places. His stories were full of extreme characters in impossible situations: heroes, villains and the ordinary people struggling to survive in their worlds. In Mark’s stories, the “good guy” was not always who you expected. He shared these visions in screenplays, books and an audiobook coming soon.

He drew inspiration from Stephen King, Robert E. Howard and Philip K. Dick, along with a lifelong love of movies and comic books. Above all, he wanted readers to have fun. For Mark, it was always about the adventure on the page.

He was just as relentless about championing other people. Like a vigilante seeking justice, he pushed writers, artists and creatives to dream bigger and work harder, and he showed up for the people he loved, whether that meant celebrating a friend’s milestone birthday in one of his favorite places or cheering on a fellow creative’s next project. Readers often met him at book signings across New Mexico and Texas and at comic cons, where he was right at home.

His latest pursuit was Rebel Storytelling, created to encourage and motivate writers. His favorite slogan said it all: “YOU are the story.”

Mark passed away unexpectedly in May 2023, but his stories, his encouragement and his larger-than-life imagination live on in the people he inspired and the worlds he created.

And as Mark would say, “Hit the bloody trail, amigos!”
